Scooters for Sale at Tomos Canada: Making it Fun and Easy to Travel in Your City

Motorcycle scooters are becoming one of Canada’s favourite modes of transportation. At Tomos Canada, we want to help you discover the reason that motorcycle and moped scooters are the next big craze.

Our scooters for sale give Canadians entry to an exciting new method of travel that’s perfectly suited for life in one of the country’s major cities. We’ve provided an introduction to the world of scooter riding below.

Read on to find out about what you need to know before getting started with driving scooters in Canada.

Scooters in Canada’s Biggest Cities: What Do I Need to Know?

There is a bit of a learning curve that comes along with riding your scooter in the city you live in. It’s a good idea to consider the type of driving that you’ll be doing and pick from one of Tomos’ scooters for sale accordingly.

Moped scooters and electric scooters are slower but make a great choice for those living in busy cities. Since they operate at lower speeds, moped scooters aren’t considered a motor vehicle and don’t require licensing. This classification lets you buy a scooter and begin driving it right away! Although they may not be extremely fast, electric and moped scooters have caught on with urbanites because of their small size, inexpensive fuel requirements and ability to improve the experience of your daily commute. Canada’s Tomos dealers stock a wide range of moped scooters for you to choose from.

Motorcycle scooters can achieve much higher speeds than electric or moped scooters and, because of this, operating them requires you to pass a Ministry of Transportation test. This is a good idea for new riders anyway, since the learning and testing process ensures that you’re capable of properly handling a powerful motorcycle scooter properly. Luckily, exams for motorcycle scooters are less intensive than many other driver exams and can be completed fairly quickly.

Your province or territory has its own Ministry of Transportation and, although rules aren’t drastically different across Canada, scooters have to adhere to the unique by-laws set in your piece of the nation. Electric scooters almost always fall under different laws than motorcycle scooters. Drivers of these models are able to ride on bike paths and, as mentioned above, do not require a license.

Unsure of which type of scooter to pick? Our Tomos dealers are able to help you make a decision that works for your lifestyle. We’re experts in our trade and can help you to buy the right vehicle that fits your unique needs.

Once you’ve passed your tests and bought your new vehicle from one of Canada’s Tomos dealers you’ll be excited to get out onto the open road. Before you do, take the time to read through an introduction to the scooter bylaws of your city below.

Scooters in Toronto

Moped and motorcycle scooter riders living in Toronto, Ontario are lucky enough to enjoy some of Canada’s most accommodating scooter by-laws.

Toronto City Council has recognized the benefits of an increased number of scooter owners throughout the metropolis however, and, since 2005, has allowed riders to park for free in designated, on-street spaces. Scooters must be parked in appropriate parking spaces and not on sidewalks and boulevards.

Although it’s (unfortunately) common to see scooters in the city’s bike lanes, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation has repeatedly stressed that doing so is both illegal and unsafe.

Scooters in Montreal

Montreal’s motorcycle or moped scooter owners must adhere to a set of bylaws that is quite similar to those in Toronto.

Quebec allows low-speed, moped scooter drivers on some roads. Much like other Canadian cities, Montreal is also home to a growing population of both moped and motorcycle scooter drivers that are working to create greater accommodations for the area’s riders.

Scooters in Vancouver

British Columbia has only recently passed laws that allow moped scooters to drive on roads (with 40 km/h speed limits).

Vancouver motorcycle scooter drivers are still unable to park for free in the city however. As in Montreal, Vancouverites continue to agitate for change. The most recent meeting with Vancouver’s mayor did not result in any change but dedicated scooter owners are still trying to make a difference.

Scooters in Calgary

Alberta, like the majority of Canada’s major cities, allows low-speed, moped scooters to drive on certain roads. Bylaws prohibit riders from traversing bike trails on even moped scooters however.

Currently, parking availability for your scooter in metropolitan Calgary can be difficult. There are options that work for drivers but a free parking bylaw has still yet to be successfully implemented. Plenty of petitions and support groups are working hard to change this.

Scooters in Halifax

After protests, petitions and years of waiting, Halifax residents are now able to park their scooters throughout the city’s downtown. There are also plans to expand this bylaw throughout Nova Scotia in the future.

Halifax, like Toronto, is one of Canada’s most scooter-friendly cities.

The Benefits of Owning a Scooter

City residents from around the world are always discovering the fun and convenience of owning a scooter. Driving scooters makes Canada’s major metropolises easier to navigate and far more exciting than when experienced in a car.

Owning a scooter often speeds up your trip to work or time spent on errands. Since public transportation in urban areas is often fraught with delays, driving a scooter can make your travel go more smoothly.

Both moped and motorcycle scooters do less harm to the environment as well. Their fuel efficiency doesn’t just save you money. It also helps to minimize the damage being done to our environment.

We carry a wide variety of motorcycle and moped scooters for sale at Tomos dealers. Don’t put off a great new vehicle any longer — shop with us today and experience the thrill of scooter ownership.
